What’s the Point?
(or the Dark Art of adding up SuperTwins Championship Points)

Now some people are ‘Numbers People’ and some people are… not.
I’m one of the ‘not’ ones...

Never mind, this is Drag Racing how complicated can it be? I mean, its not exactly crickets is it… runs, overs, batting averages, whatever, whatever…
don’t you believe it!

It’s taken me years to work this out and in an extraordinary gesture of generosity I’m going to share it with you.

Maybe you would have just picked-it-up-as-you-went-along but if not, this could save you from all the effort of nodding sagely while trying to work out what everybody else is talking about... and hoping they don't spot that you're clueless!!

This is how the SuperTwins Championship works…

At each meeting points are accrued like this

1. Signing On – each racer gets 100 points for entering the meeting, turning up and getting through scrutineering
2. Qualifying – to Qualify a racer must complete at least one pass of the track. Qualifying points are awarded depending on the size of the field – in a 4 bike field the slowest qualifier will get 10 points, the 3rd will get 20, the second 30, and the fastest qualifier 40 points. In an 8 bike field the slowest will get 10 and the fastest 80.
3. Eliminations - after qualifying the competition moves to Elimination Rounds. The winner of each round is awarded 100 points and goes through to the next Elimination.
4. MPH and ET – 25 points are awarded for the highest terminal MPH and another 25 for the lowest ET (Elapsed Time) in each Class at each meeting. These are not necessarily achieved by the same racer.
5. Records – 100 points are awarded if a racer breaks the MPH or ET record in their class.

So in a competition that goes like this…

Arthur Basil Caroline
Basil
Caroline Caroline
Derek

The points look like this…

Racer Sign on Qual 1 2 MPH ET Total
A 100 40       25 165
B 100 10 100       210
C 100 30 100 100 25   355
D 100 20         120

Caroline has won this Championship Round! Hoorah!

As the Season progresses each Racer’s points are added and at the end of the year the one with the most points overall is the Champion!!

Easy isn’t it? What was I getting confused about??
OK, that was the ‘O’ level… where do we sign up for the Masters Degree in 60 foot times and the PhD in ET Racing?
