Are
you the next New Racer?
So you want to be a SuperTwin?
Hello,
this is the info page we’ve put together for people thinking of
coming Drag Racing with the National Association of SuperTwins (NAST).
We hope it answers most (or maybe all) of your questions. If not, please
feel free to give one of us a call, or drop us an e-mail,
we’re only too happy to help.
What
is NAST for?
It is the organisation which puts together the Annual Championship Competition(s)
specifically for twin cylinder motorcycle drag racing in the UK.
The
Club negotiates with both main UK drag tracks to arrange the 5 (or 6)
Championship Rounds and ensure that all necessary requirements are met
for these dates. NAST is Affiliated to the ACU as a Club so members
do not need to sign-up separately as individual ACU members. The Club
will also support a member should any issues arise with the tracks or
the governing body.
What
does it do?
As well as the above, SuperTwins does everything it can to ensure that
everyone has the most successful and enjoyable experience of Drag racing
possible. Basically we want everybody to have fun!
The Club produces an irregular newsletter as well as this web site,
both aiming to keep members informed and in touch.
We provide a ‘base’ in the pits at all Championship Rounds
where members can find each other and Club Officials for advice, support,
‘mickey taking’ etc. (It is not at all unusual to find competitors
working together to fix a problem or make an adjustment to a bike…
half an hour later they’ll meet each other on the track!)
The Club has a formal structure including Tech Reps for each class to
assist and advise racers (especially newbies) on technical matters with
particular reference to safety scrutineering.
In addition to the formal Championship Rounds we occasionally organise
a ‘social’ meeting where we get together and race “for
laughs”.
Out of Season NAST holds its AGM Weekend which involves taking over
a pub for the weekend, doing the official business swiftly and then
“mucking about a lot and talking about motorbikes”…
oh, and there’s beer if anyone wants it.
Who
are the SuperTwins?
Honestly…? The strangest mix of people you’re likely to
come across really. With ages ranging from 20’s to old-enough-to-know-better,
male and female, from North, South, East & West we have a wonderful
selection of different experiences and styles... silly and sensible,
extremely clever and very stupid, fit and flabby, absolutely gorgeous
and quite revolting...
The one thing I can say they all have in common is they’re lovely
people. Honestly.
